Assignment 3 - Film trailer proposal

Film Trailer Proposal

Audience Research Conclusions -
From the results of our questionnaire for audience research, we can understand the target audience preferences and needs so that we can implement them into our trailer. Most of the target audience are most interested by a story preview in a trailer rather then the action and flashy scenes. Because of this, our trailer will mostly focus on giving our audience a viewing of the story, but also include exhilarating shots that excite the audience. This approach has been taken to all of the results taken, and we now have an idea of what kind of trailer will create the most enjoyment.

Genre -
Our trailer will preview a action drama film that we have created for the intention of this project. The main genre of this film will be action, because of the overall plot, but the sub-genre is drama to add more story and dialogue into the trailer. For our main genre, Action, we will be following the conventions of fast paced editing, narration overlay and serious NVC of characters while also including the fade to black transitions and dark settings of the Drama genre.

Content and Structure -
The tile of the film is undecided, however there are general ideas regarding the hitman plot of the film. We plan to name it before production, however we feel no urgency in doing so. The main story of the film is a retired hitman (protagonist) has fallen into the darks of alcoholism and crime when he is recruited back into his former agency with a fresh incentive of redemption. The tag line, like the trailer title is undecided and will be decided before film production. The structure of the trailer supports the genres of the film, with slow paced close up scenes with dialogue and fade to black transitions at the start (supporting the drama genre's conventions) , while the tone and the tempo of the trailer speeds up with fast edited flashy scenes with narration overlay (supporting the action genre's conventions)

Audience -
Our target audience is the young teenagers from ages 14-18, those interested in the action scenes and exciting tempo of the action genre, most likely boys in the middle class. Also, a secondary target audience would be young adults from ages 18-23 who enjoy a film with more substance and drama. The alcoholic background of the protagonist also opens to an audience that struggles with alcoholism, as they would empathise with the protagonist, and the general plot of redemption in the film is a relatable issue for the middle and lower class public. We will make sure to make the protagonist relatable to these audiences, while also taking advantage of flashy shots and meaningful plot to draw in the younger audiences.

Representation -
The trailer will represent the protagonist as a underdog, a man seeking redemptions from his dark past.  He will be broken down, cynical however skilled, representing the broken spirit of a man who has gone through alcoholism and losing his job. This will relate with similar audiences who prefer the underdog storyline. The antagonist will be a strong organised vigilante who plans a terrorism event that will devastate the world. These are representations that are normally used in this genre, and excite the audience.

Institution -
Our trailer would be distributed as part of a film promotion campaign ahead of the movies release. Along with the trailer, our actors would likely interview with tv hosts and appear on national television to advertise the movie. There would be merchandising and advertisement in famous magazines that appeal to the target audience. and fundraising to a charity that help people who are need after struggling with alcoholism. Synergy will be shown by using the angle of an alcoholic's redemption using the alcoholism fundraiser as well as the adverts shown in action magazines using the same dark and murky colour scheme, logo and tagline to create a dark mature theme for the movie that our target audience would enjoy.
